Hosting a garage sale in Calgary this summer or hunting for local treasures? Here’s your roadmap to make the most of it.
QUICK FACTS–
Permits required:
– Signage rules: Up to three signs per sale, posted only the day before and the day of the sale. Each sign must include the owner’s name, address, phone number, and posting date, and be removed after the sale.
– Placement limits: No signs on utility poles, centre medians, traffic islands, or fire hydrants, and none within 30 metres of intersections, bus zones, or LRT stations.
– Peak season: May to early September
– Peak times: Friday through Sunday, 9 AM – 3 PM
– Best time of the month: First weekend due to payday timing.
– Weekends to avoid: Calgary Stampede (Jul 3–12, 2026)For Sellers: Where to Hold Your Garage SaleHost on front yards, driveways, strata-approved townhouse spaces, or join community association “Parade of Garage Sales” events.
Pricing Guide:
– Clothing: $1 to $5 for basic items; Western wear attracts stronger interest during Stampede season.
– Collectibles: Vintage tools, local memorabilia, and Alberta-themed items appeal to dedicated collectors.
– Retro Goods: Mid-century furniture and Y2K fashion remain popular with bargain hunters.
– Electronics: Target 10–20% of the retail price for working gear. Always test items before sale day.
Pro Tip: Price items 15–20% above your absolute minimum to leave room for friendly haggling. Calgary weather changes fast, so keep tarps handy for sudden July thunderstorms or hail.
For Buyers: Finding the Best Deals– Arrive Early: The best furniture, tools, collectibles, and vintage items often sell within the first hour.
– Bring Cash and Digital Options: Many sellers still appreciate cash, but e-Transfer is increasingly common throughout Calgary.
– Plan Your Route: Check community association websites, Facebook Marketplace, and local Facebook groups to map an efficient route.
Where to Advertise–
– Kijiji Calgary
– Facebook Marketplace
– VarageSale
– Calgary Local community Facebook groups Post listings three to five days in advance with clear photos, sale hours, and a few featured items.
Community Sales: Watch for “Parade of Garage Sales” events featuring dozens of households, often in Auburn Bay, Mahogany, McKenzie Towne, Tuscany, Cranston, and Silver Springs.
Make this summer count. Happy hunting and selling!

Rocky Ridge sits at Calgary’s northwest edge, literally. The community is built atop a ridge more than 1,200 metres above sea level, making it one of the city’s highest residential neighbourhoods. That elevation comes with rewards: sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains to the west and the city skyline to the east. The housing mix spans detached single-family homes, from mid-range family layouts to luxury estate properties on the ridge, as well as semi-detached duplexes, townhomes, and low-rise apartment condos. Much of the housing was built between the late 1990s and mid-2000s, with mature landscaping throughout. The neighbourhood’s anchor is the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, a 284,000-square-foot facility with a fitness centre, aquatic centre, triple gymnasium, theatre, and a Calgary Public Library branch. Trails, wetlands, and ravine pathways round out a community that draws families looking for space, scenery, and amenities without leaving the city.
